You come across loads of builders on the Internet. But how do you know if they’re any good?
Building or renovating is a big deal. To quote a post from the website Home Builder – Reviews and Advice
“If you’re looking to build or renovate, do yourself a favour and get some understanding of what you’re about to undertake. Building a house is a very expensive and highly complex project – way more than you think if you’ve never done it before.
There are great builders and suppliers out there, but there are rip-off merchants, too. …. Getting it right will make your life fantastic, but getting it wrong could destroy you financially, so prepare!”
As we have said many times on our website, if you’re looking to build or renovate, you need to take your time finding your builder. You need to do your due diligence. You need to ask around, talk to previous clients, check out homes your prospective builders have worked on and read the reviews.
Reviews for builders online
When it comes to reviews, a good place to start is Home Builder – Reviews and Advice. When we wrote this page in April 2023, there were 3,749 thoughts on “Builder Reviews”. Many of the comments were related to contracts, and many were about home building companies and building franchises.

“I was looking for home building companies and came across a number of builders. However, what I didn’t find was a review site, with customers providing feedback on different building companies.
Does such a site exist? There are plenty of sites for restaurant reviews, and I would have thought deciding which building company to go with would be much more an important decision than deciding where to go out for dinner.”

Dan and the team looked after the rebuild of two balconies, a large rotten deck and new deck! They also discovered and completely rebuilt/re-clad a rotted out section of garage/laundry that saved us from disaster further down the track. The quality of the workmanship with the woodwork especially was great, we have some beautiful finishing on our cedar home, with new stairs and decking/balconies throughout. Dan, Steve and their Builders Laurence and Chris helped bring our vision to life, making some great suggestions to enhance the finished product. We contracted Dan and his team for our deck renovation project as the old deck has some H&S concerns. I cannot recommend Steve and the guys more highly. I had a tricky wrap around deck renno which included hard to find bespoke balustrades and the guys did an amazing job. I get the feeling with DBS that they genuinely care about their clients and go to great lengths to get things sorted for them. These guys are great!!
